The economic benefits of having a well-educated workforce  are well-documented.  Economists say that  Michigan must transition to a Knowledge-based economy to thrive. 
 
The Grand Rapids Press (February 11, 2008) reported that "States with an abundance of jobs in information, finance and insurance, management, professional and technical services, health care and education have the highest per capita incomes..."
 
Michigan Future Inc. issued its first annual report on Michigan's transition to a knowledge-based economy stating: "Most importantly, high education attainment industries accounted for 75% of the job growth in America from 2001-2005."
